Croydon Smile Hub Community Pop-Up Brings Energy, Enterprise and Opportunity to the Heart of Croydon

The Croydon Smile Hub came alive on Saturday 23 May as local residents, entrepreneurs and community supporters gathered for a vibrant Community Pop-Up event organised by the Businesswomen Circle in partnership with Friends of the Croydon Smile Hub.

Despite the unusually hot weather, the event attracted a steady flow of visitors throughout the day, with many people still arriving as vendors were beginning to pack away — prompting discussions about extending future events until 4pm due to growing demand and interest. The event featured more than 10 stalls showcasing a wide range of local talent and enterprise, including African fashion, handmade jewellery, aromatherapy products, vintage accessories, face painting, balloons, book promotion and creative arts.

One of the youngest entrepreneurs, an 11-year-old selling handmade bracelets, impressed visitors and reportedly made one of the highest profits of the day. A rum slushy stall also proved particularly popular in the warm weather. Special guests and community promotions included Marcus from Hold It Down, while the event also generated two enquiries about hiring the Smile Hub venue and interest from two potential new vendors for future markets.

Arthens Simpson, Chair of Friends of the Croydon Smile Hub, said: “We were very pleased with the launch event and the positive atmosphere throughout the day. It was a fantastic start and a great example of how community events can bring people together, support local enterprise and encourage entrepreneurial skills among young people. We are looking forward to building even greater awareness and participation in future events.”

The organisers say the event marks the beginning of a growing programme of community-focused activities designed to celebrate creativity, enterprise and local connection across Croydon.
