Since our first workshop on April 7th , the buzz in Broad Green has been building. We began with ‘The Nib’—a quiet, focused space for reflection and writing. On Tuesday, April 21st , that internal work found its voice as we hosted our first official Spoken Word Jam: The Mic .
The latest chapter of the Therapoetry residency, led by FJ, transformed the Hub into a sanctuary for expression. This wasn’t just a typical open mic; it was an intimate "Release" session designed to bridge the gap between private thoughts and community connection.
A Supportive Circle of Voices
The room was set with a simple, powerful intention: “Whether you are performing, writing, or just witnessing—you are enough.” While the evening felt intimate and safe, the support was palpable. At the end of every performance, the room erupted into heartfelt applause, a collective acknowledgement of the bravery it takes to share one's truth. This shared energy carried every performer through their piece and turned the Hub into a true stage for the community.
The Voices of Broad Green
The lineup was a testament to the talent and raw honesty right here in our community. We were treated to a diverse range of styles and stories from:
- Marie , who warmed the room with her evocative piece, "Dear Sunshine."
- Shaheed , who delivered the riveting and thought-provoking "Ton of Brix."
- Powerful contributions from Em, Zam, Dom, Mack Jehu, Jericho, and Shenan.
- A special moment from our very own Tamkin , who stepped up to share with the circle.
Each performer brought a different "visual vitamin" to the room, proving that when we share our lived experiences, we provide a map for others to find their own way through.
A High-Note Finale
To close the evening, FJ took to the mic to perform "Most High" from his Therapoetry EP . The performance served as a perfect anchor for the night, grounding the energy of the "Release" and reminding us all of the spiritual and emotional height that creative expression can reach.
Keep the Momentum: Next Workshop April 28th The "Mic-Nib" journey is a continuous cycle of growth. Now that we have experienced the "Release," we head back to the page to begin the work anew.
